Monty Lewis
Founder

Monty Lewis's journey is a remarkable example of personal redemption and societal contribution. Having experienced a challenging past that included repeated incarcerations and struggles with substance abuse, Lewis found himself at a turning point while in solitary confinement, sparked by a prison chaplain. This moment marked the beginning of a profound transformation in his life.

After his release, Lewis dedicated himself to assisting others who were entangled in the criminal justice system. He became the Director and Founder of Bridges of Canada Inc., a non-profit organization aimed at supporting individuals involved in the criminal justice system. Monty also established Bar None Camp, an adventure based summer camp that focuses on helping families of inmates, ex-offenders, and children from underprivileged backgrounds.

Throughout his career, Lewis received notable recognition for his efforts in public safety and rehabilitation. In November 1998, he was honored by the Solicitor General of Canada with the inaugural award for Public Safety in Canada. The Correctional Service of Canada National Headquarters in Ottawa also presented him with a Peace Maker Award for his contributions to the city of Fredericton. He was an active participant in various organizations and was a sought-after speaker at renowned national and international conferences.

In 2003, Lewis's efforts were further acknowledged when he received the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal, and in 2012, he was awarded the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal, both in recognition of his significant contributions and achievements.

Lewis authored several publications, including “The Caper,” a book detailing his life story, and “Can the Chaplain Do It Alone?”, a training manual written in 1995. His last book, “God Still Speaks,” written in 2012, offers insights into his experiences and perspectives.

Monty Lewis's story is a powerful narrative of transformation and dedication to helping others, showcasing how personal change can lead to significant societal impact.
